In Delhi there is an Ashram called ‘Ram Sharanam’ established by Swami Satyanand Ji Maharaj about five decades ago. Every Sunday morning there is a two-hour session of ‘Bhajans’ in which thousands of people register their presence. Before the bhajans start everybody sings together ‘Amrit Vaani’ for about 35 minutes. ‘Amrit Vaani’ explains miraculous properties of Ram’s Name that’s all. Since most of the visitors are regulars they have memorized the ‘Amrit Vaani’. However, for others there are small books available and they can read it out with others.
It was my first experience to that place this Sunday and one single experience made me bow before the spirit. Since I did not know ‘Amrit Vaani’ I was reading it out from the book. Suddenly I saw in my neighbourhood somebody was reading something in an Urdu book with same rhythm. I asked him what was he reading and he replied that it was the Urdu version of ‘Amrit Vaani’ and caters to those who are not able to read Hindi. And, incidently the man was a Muslim.
I thought, I may or may not see Lord Ram in person during my life-time but today I certainly saw his shadow.
