Lord Voldemort has indeed returned!! Harry potter's (Daniel Radcliffe) fifth year at Hogwards begins. He is no more "the sweet little kid" as seen in "the Goblet of Fire", He is now grown up and facing darkness to an extent that makes him disturbed and paranoid and angrier in The Order of the Phoenix than he was seen before. We wonder if this is a natural progression in Potter’s life as he makes the transition from a teenager to a young angry man.
There is absolute chaos around Harry which feeds and fuels his anger. A furious Harry is first is attacked by Dementors in front of his cousin Dudley, he is threatened to be expelled for using magic in front of a muggle and worse the news splashed around in the “Daily Prophet” that Harry was lying about seeing "He who must not be named".
Hoping to feel at home in Hogward's , Harry faces disgust from his house mates in Gryffindor for lying around to all and sundry. He is accused of ‘what he hasn’t done’. Harry is enraged, and not surprisingly his close friends Ron Hermione (Rupert Grint and Emma Watson) are worried about him.
Harry on the other hand begins to get visions of what Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) thinks and what his next action would be. On the other side, Fudge, the head of the ministry thinks that Dumbledore is conspiring against the Ministry and him so that Dumbledore takes over the ministry. To watch over Dumbledore's Activities, Fudge appoints Dolores Umbridge to be the defence against
the dark arts teacher. Soon the deceptively saccharine Umbridge is sabotaging classes, harassing teachers, outlawing all practical use of magic in school and
discrediting anyone asserting that Voldemort is back.
Determined to force Harry to withdraw his claims about the Dark Lord's return, she sets him a whole week of agonising, blood-dripping detention in her office. Harry takes matters into his own hands and begins to meet secretly with a small group of students who name themselves "Dumbledore's Army." This real DADA class prepares the students to join with the Order of the Phoenix and battle the Death Eaters. Nothing can prepare
them for the price it will cost to win the battle... A lot of new characters like Luna Lovegood (Evanna Lynch) , Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton), Belatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter), Tonks are introduced. The characters are well placed and have done justice to the original character like in that of the book. The character that was most pleasing on screen was Dolores Umbrigde who
has matched her role with that in the book. Just that the introduction of these characters in the movie were not clearly defined, which leaves the audiences clueless, specially the ones who have not read the book.
After the much awaited return of Lord Voldemort, viewers wished to see more of "He-who-must-not-be-named" but only glimpses of the Lord were shown. There was not much action in the movie but a transition from childhood to youth was shown with relationships between Harry Potter and his love interest Cho Chang now advanced to being more than
friends.
In comparison to the previous Potter movies, "The Order of the Phoenix" has made a decent attempt to re-create the magic of the book. The movie is well-made, but is incomplete in itself as not much magic or spells are
illustrated.
