5S is a simple system. 5S is the basic requirement for implementing TQM, TPM, SIX SIGMA, and Lean Manufacturing system. Understanding the essence of the system is also simple.
5S systems will help all industries, offices, educational institutions, hospitals, banks etc. to improve productivity, quality, cost, delivery, safety, service and morale, leading to results in improved customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction and performance results INCLUDING PROFITS.
Everyone can understand the system better,if the basic concepts are related to the daily home life of the individual. The following conversation, happening in a training programme will explain the concept clearly.

Gentlemen, Mr. B. Hapey, answered my questions. Except one answer, I am sure that all the answers were true. The only wrong answer was for the first one; “Do you practice 5S system?” All the answers he was giving proved beyond doubt that he is practicing the concepts of 5S system, as a way of life and habit, probably without knowing the technique and the jargons. We need not know the management jargons. We need to understand the concepts and practice them for the success. Mr. B Hapey is practising the 5S concepts namely, CLEARING, ORGANSING, CLEANING, STANDARDISING AND TRAINING & DISCIPLINE in his personal life and in the home front.”
If we go thro’ the questions and answers, individually, once again, with reference to the 5S concepts explained in the next chapter, we can understand that he is almost a ‘PERFECT 5S MAN!’ Similarly, like the gentleman who was answering the questions, all other members may be following the concepts of 5S system in our personal life, since these are common sense oriented points. What we have to do is to EXTEND THE SAME HABITS AND THE WAY OF LIFE TO OUR WORKPLACE, whether it is Office, Educational Institution, Hospitality Industry, Bank or Factory production area.
It is possible; may be difficult; definitely not impossible.
