The world is a beautiful place to live in and the concept of globalisation has made it even better. It has opened new vistas for individuals and organisations alike. It has become a professional’s paradise. However, the rapid pace in which it has flourished left a little time for weaning out the weeds. The weeds, unfortunately, have grown into elephant grasses which threaten to smother progressive development. This weed is corruption which has plagued the world today. It has been a bane, an obstacle and a hindrance to the growth and development of many countries in the world. In countries where the government and political environment is honest, we generally find that the people are honest, law abiding and helpful. And the reverse is true too. Many attempts had been made in the past to abolish corruption but all in vain. Corruption is so deep rooted that it has caused many companies to sink like titanic. Corruption can be abolished to a great extent by addressing and awakening the values inherent in every individual.
First and foremost we have to be true to ourselves. To quote Thomas Carlyle,” Make yourself an honest man and then you may be sure there is one rascal less in the world”. Whatever we do or say, we should first ask ourselves whether it is true or not. We can lie to anyone else but not to our conscience. Truth always prevails. A true person always holds respect. For example, if we sell something to a consumer by telling him a lie about the qualities of the product the consumer will eventually come to know this. However, can you guess what loss it has caused one? Not only is the name of the company spoilt, that consumer will tell his friends and relatives about this and they will all go against you. So, just for one product you will loose many.
The second thing that we should keep in mind is to be fair to all. We should not be partial but judicious in our decisions. Whatever we do should not be for just one community but everybody. It is a progressive world that we inhabit. The logistics of the success stories carved out today are based on statistics which bear the future in mind. To aim for a long success story we need to be sagacious, transparent and fair. Even a government has to be fair to all. Being fair not only gives self satisfaction but also increases our credibility in the eyes of those with whom we interact.
We also have to see that the thing we do is beneficial to all. When we lead an organisation, we not only do the job for our own living but many lives are dependant on our decisions. We should adopt a holistic approach towards an issue and we will see that it will soon pay off. Working for plain, mercenary desires looses its lustre after a while. We must strive for activities or plans which benefit the society as a whole. The benefit that we give others will all be doubled and come to us. We could then reap the harvest and that too, with a clear soul.
We should always try to spread goodwill in this world by whatever we do, say or think. Do well to others and they will do well to you and respect you. We should always try to make friends through our activities. Friends are our best supporters. They help us in every aspect of life. We get friends because of our friendly behaviour and a friendly behaviour is always liked by others. To the people you are the person who can be approached in any difficulty of life.
Today the economic and political condition of many countries is pathetic primarily because of, ‘corruption’. The above four points, if kept in our mind, can help to improve this situation a lot. If we cultivate a bit of philanthropy in our selves the world will definitely become a better place to live in. If each of us makes a little effort we can do wonders. A little hole in a boat can make it sink and small drops of waters can make oceans.
