I have seen people boasting about the petty compromises they made for the long-end benefit of their own yet giving it the name of sacrifice done for others. However, I have experienced a genuine sacrifice in real life, which I consider is one of the toughest things to do in our country India.
One of our family friends, a doctor by profession, had two grown up daughters of 16 & 14 and no son. His younger brother and his wife could not become parents even after the five years of their marriage, as the lady was not able to conceive. Moreover, the couple was not prepared to adopt a child either. Therefore, my doctor friend and his wife came up to his rescue and decided to take a bold step. Without caring for the ire of their grown up daughters they went for the third child with a promise to give the child to the younger couple. And they got a Son this time. Now their daughters’ attitude changed to 180o and they insisted their parents not to keep their promise. But, the doctor couple was really the gem of a pair. They did not perform even the first ceremony at their home and handed over their most cherished possession to the younger couple to bring the lost smile back on their faces. Can any sacrifice be bigger than this in a country where it is a curse if a lady is not able to give a son to her family?
