Recently in a news item of a National Daily it was reported that ‘The Government Is Considering the Possibility of Exempting Consensual Sex Between Minors From the Purview of Criminal Offences’.
My instant reaction after going through the Over Adventurous move of the Indian Judiciary was; “Is it bent upon converting India into US, in every possible way?” I wonder whether majority would agree with me. Nonetheless, since I am myself, therefore, I would not hold back my spontaneous feelings without even giving it a second thought. The Judiciary must be having its own reasoning for being so out-going apropos the growing curiosity of adolescent towards sex, but I would like to analyze the situation more critically.
Although I do not carry an ‘Orthodox Head’ over ‘Voguish Shoulders’, yet would not second the court’s ruling blindly just to add a prefix ‘Metro’ before my Genre, and to be called ‘(Metro) Man’.
First of all, we all should reach the root cause of this inflating inquisitiveness and reducing morality (or rather fear) about sex among teens.
Many of us out rightly would put the entire blame on the spur of the ‘Foreign Channels’ which are showing such stuff which is a No! No! to us. Our ‘Moral Police Inspector’ i.e. I&B Minister recently banned AXN for showing ‘World’s Sexiest Ads’ after 11 PM. But, unfortunately though, he was not aware that one of our own Desi Ads, that of a ‘Panty’ flying towards a ‘Brief’ and landing on it, was once included in that program. It is as ridiculous as a father preaching his son about the disadvantages of ‘Carbonated Drinks’ while having his ‘Peg’.
So here are two lines on the Hypocritical Policing:-
“Hum Farishton Ki Baaton Key Qayal Nahin,
Guftagoo Kijiye Aadmi Ki Tarah.”
To me, it is us, and our own Family Soaps, which have turned our generation uninhibited so far as Sex and Casual Relationships are concerned. Every household nowadays is talking about the Family Soaps, which, according to them, can be seen with entire family without any threat to the upbringing of their innocent children. However, on the contrary, I find them more dangerous than hard-core pornography, which you prefer to watch behind close doors when your kids are fast asleep. Because, what is shown in a pornographic material is understood to be kept away from the reach of children and hence proper care is taken while handling it. However, on the other hand while watching Family Soaps you don’t feel the need of keeping children away from it as they do not contain any overtly obscene material in them. But the reality is that every serial of Ekta Kapoor or anybody of her genre on the similar theme have been showing ‘An Illicit Child’, ‘An Unwed Mother’, ‘A Rape Victim’ and ‘An Unfaithful Spouse’. Since we ourselves watch these stories with our children they tend to take them in such a natural way as if it is a part of every Household of the country. That implies as if there is nothing wrong to have ‘Pre Marital Sex’, ‘Multiple Sexual Relations’, ‘Being Unwed Mothers’ and so on.
If Foreign Channels are ‘Polluting’ our Generation, our own Channels are ‘Slow Poisoning’ it.
There is an apt couplet that:-
“Zeher Is Mahaul Ka Mujhmein Kuch Itna Bhar Gaya,
Saanp Ney Kata Mujhe Aur Kaatney Se Mar Gaya.”
However the situation is not that grim as yet and is still very much under control. The solution is that we, the Parents and the Kids both will have to Open the ‘Gates’ of their ‘Brain’. Former to let the ‘Stagnant’ air go out and Latter to let the ‘Healthy’ waves come inside.
Since the society has been transforming at a rapid pace, we cannot afford to do a ‘Pigeon’ as the ‘Cat’ is already out. Therefore, a positive balance is needed but not by pressing the ‘Panic Button’ but by installing ‘Firewalls’ to avoid catastrophe.
Therefore regarding the court’s ruling I would only say that I don’t mind if a kid starts riding ‘Bicycle’ without graduating to ‘Tricycle’, but I would not accept succumbing to his demand for ‘Para Gliding’ right after leaving the ‘Pram’.
