Of late I was struggling with myself to find out as what is the most over-rated virtue of Human Life. And after much self-deliberations and first hand experience, perhaps I got the answer.
It is the ‘TRUTH’.
Some of us might ridicule me over my self-perceived, self-styled, and self-derived result, but I have strong reasons to believe this way.
It is an undeniable fact that we crave ‘Truth’ in every domain of our lives without looking at ourselves how ‘Truthful’ life we have been pursuing. To me Truth is a relative term. If something is an ‘Absolute Truth’ for somebody it may be ‘Absolute Lie’ for some others. Never forget that ‘Half Filled Glass’ is always ‘Half Empty’ too.
There is nothing in this world like ‘Absolute Truth’. One has to fix the wheels of Lies to move it forward. For example, if one has to give a true opinion about a Dark Complexioned woman, one would say that she carries ‘Sharp Features’ which don’t suit to fair complexioned people. Can anybody say that it is a ‘Truthful’ statement. No. Because the ‘Truth’ was given the ‘Crutches of Lie’ to stand.
I consider it as the most foolish effort if one tries to extract ‘Truth and Nothing But Truth’ out of somebody. Does he have an unadulterated and lactometer kind of heart which could separate ‘Innocuous Lie’ from the ‘Truth’.
Let us take two recent examples. One of Manu Sharma, whom one justice finds totally Innocent and the other finds him guilty of ‘Rarest of Rare’ crime. That too on the same grounds and on the basis of the testimony of same witnesses. In second case when Geelani is acquitted in the case of “attack on Parliament’, it is said that ‘Truth’ prevailed. But when Mohammad Afzal is slapped with Death Sentence in the same case, the Indian Judicial System is called ‘Biased’.
Defining ‘Truth’, therefore becomes very simple. ‘Truth’ is a ‘Sugar Coated Candy’ that is liked till it reaches the ‘Sour’ core of it. We accept a statement as ‘Truth’ until it suits us, after that we dump it. Sometimes in the name of ‘Biasedness’, sometimes by calling it ‘Grudge’, and sometimes ‘Hostility’. But the basic reason is that we are not honest to ourselves and have no heart to hear the ‘Absolute Truth’.
Recently, during a casual tet-e-tet a verdict was announced for me that ‘I Can Never be Always Right’. Yes indeed. I am not and I cannot be. But ‘So Are the Others’, which, unfortunately though, everybody doesn’t have enough courage to admit.
Being in Government Job we need to give a ‘Self Appraisal Report’ during the end of the year on the basis of which the ‘Confidential Report’ is written. Now can anybody in spite of knowing that except for having tea and cigarette during office time has done nothing, write that his output during the previous year was NIL. Instead, his self-appraisal report goes in pages and if his ‘Truth’ suits his Boss in anyway he gets an ‘Outstanding’ entry for the work, which he never has done. And the person who actually did it has to remain content with a mere ‘Satisfactory’ remark, because his ‘Truth’ doesn’t suit his Boss due to obvious reasons.
Whosoever in this world is in the search of ‘Truth’ in any form, should first assess himself whether he is capable to vet the ‘Hidden Truth’ behind the ‘Surfaced’ one.
For this, I would suggest everybody irrespective of age, class and creed to write an honest self appraisal at least once a year without disclosing it before anybody and then only he would be introduced to his real self:-
“Apni Tasveer Banaoge To Hoga Ehsaas,
Kitna Dushwaar Hai Khud Ko Koi Chehra Dena”
Except for Death there is no “Absolute Truth” in this world. It is a matter of perception only. Million of Truths get defeated by a single lie. Therefore seeking and searching for ‘Truth and Nothing But Truth’, to me is the most wasteful job in this world.
