It would be difficult to find many people in our country of ‘Values & Traditions’ who would denounce the age-old perception that ‘Only Truth Prevails’, but, unfortunately though, I take it as a ‘Myth’ and not ‘Legacy’, as I have strong reasons to believe this way.
The force that drove me to change my outlook towards life and its values is not due to personal experiences only, but due to our mythology and epics too, which catalyzed this in a big way.
Let me first clarify it that I am neither an atheist nor radical, but at the same time I do keep a Brain also, which with the grace of Almighty is working perfectly fine so far. I would, therefore, seek anticipatory apologies from all those who might get hurt in any way by my own point-of-view.
So, let me start from Ramayana. There is no debate that our land never produced more pious and truthful soul than lord Rama – the only person enjoying the suffix ‘Maryadapurshottam’ before his name. His selflessness and transparency in respect of honoring his father’s command and putting his wife to the ultimate test can never be matched in ages to come. But, did he prevail over Ravana just because Truth was on his side?
No!
Because, if we go by the words of Goswami Tulsidas, it was the ‘Vanar Sena’ that made him victorious – courtesy, Sugreeva – the king of apes. But, could Sugreeva have ever become the king, had Lord Rama not killed Bali, the elder brother of Sugreeva? And, everybody knows how did Rama kill Bali. By keeping aside ‘Maryada’ i.e. the ‘Fair Play’ for a while. That is, although ‘Truth Prevailed’, but only after adopting ‘Unfair Practice’.
Now, I would like to recall another Benchmark of Indian Mythology i.e. Mahabharata, which also yet again tries to prove that at the end ‘Truth Comes Out Victorious’. But again, the biggest hurdles between the ‘Triumph of Truth’ and ‘Lynching of Lie’ viz. Dronacharya and Bhishma were overpowered through ‘Unfair Means’, and that too by none other than Lord Krishna himself.
If our Gods take the help of ‘Deceit’ to avoid ‘Defeat’ and 24-Carat Gold cannot turn into ornament unless mixed with impurity; how can we turn our lives ‘Savory’ without adding the pinch of ‘Lie’ in the ‘Recipe’ of ‘Truth’.
The crux of the above thought of mine is that there is nothing in this world that could be termed as ‘Absolute Truth’, because it cannot fly without the ‘Feathers of Fib’.
Therefore, to sum up, here are two lines for all those who claim themselves to be ‘Absolute Puritans’:-
“Hum Farishton Ki Baaton Key Qayal Nahin,
Guftagoo Kijiye Aadmi Ki Tarah.”
