COSMETIC SMILE DESIGNING
We live in a beauty conscious society. No wonder, the smile on the face adds to one’s charms & beauty but it has a more important role of improving one’s self image. It is rightly said that smile is a curve that sets everything straight.
Not all of the ‘beautiful people’ are born that way however. Many have helped nature along by taking advantage of Plastic surgery as well as Cosmetic Dentistry. If you are one of those who hate to smile because your teeth are crowded, chipped, misshapen or discoloured, stop worrying. There are new techniques available with your Dentist that can make them picture perfect.
Bonding : Bonding restores teeth that have suffered damage such as chips/fractures, are with gaps and that are discoloured or misaligned. Strong durable tooth coloured plastic resins are used to rebuild the teeth and make them look normal. Addition of composites i.e. tooth coloured filling material can recontour and redesign your smile dramatically.
Laminates/Porcelain Veneers : Porcelain Veneers are hard tooth shaped shells which are adhered or cemented on surface of prepared teeth to correct discoloured, damaged/crooked teeth, to close gaps between teeth and also to lengthen short teeth.
Bleaching : Use of soft flexible trays with bleaching agents for night wear to lighten stains due to tea, coffee, tobacco, food and age. A brighter whiter and pleasant smile can be achieved.
Cosmetic Gum Recontouring : Some people are plagued with a ‘Gummy Smile’; where too much of gums are seen when they smile. Gums are recontoured/repositioned for a wider, friendlier and a more open smile.
Microabrasion : Removal of small layers of enamel to eliminate minor defects/spots.
Cosmetic tooth Recontouring : Many people of all ages have irregularly shaped tooth edges, bulky teeth or worn off edges. Assuming there are no functional problems with the teeth fitting together, teeth can be reshaped or recontoured to look smooth and natural.
