During recent past I watched two movies ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ and ‘Gandhi’ and a complete TV serial ‘Chanakya’ consisting of 48 episodes on DVD.
But during any of the above watching, I never felt even for a moment as if we have come of an age and the ideologies shown in these Movies and Serials have become obsolete and the hidden beneath them has lost its relevance. On the contrary I found them more timely and appropriate for present day of affairs rather than those times when they were conceived.
The new term ‘Gandhigiri’ has definitely given the new meaning to the docile and rather forgotten word ‘Gandhivaad’, which felt like ‘Sugar Coated Con Candy’. Whereas the word ‘Giri’ leaves an ‘Emphatic’ and ‘Deterrent’ effect on everybody like it does when used with ‘Bhai Giri’, ‘Dada Giri’ etc. Gone are those days when people used to understand and respect the real meanings of Vaad’ i.e. ‘Cult’. There is a very good Urdu couplet to substantiate my point of view that:
“Bahut Lihaaz Murauvvat Bhi Jaan Ke Dushman Hain,
Jahaan Mein Jeen hai Toh Inmein Kuch Kameen Kar Lo.”
In a scene of ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, Sanjay Dutt, after offering second cheek for slapping said that he did not know what Gandhi Ji taught after that and gives a nice beating to the goon. Well said. There is always a limit of everything, which, we in the race of showing the Hypocrite Tolerant face to the world have forgotten lately.
While watching ‘Gandhi’ I constantly kept asking myself as why do we call Gandhi Ji a Man of History. He was the man without whom any modern society is still incomplete, because the vision he had no body can even reach near to it. His biggest critics blame him for the partition but while doing so they forget that to uphold the peace of an average Indian Home consisting of only two sons the father is left with no choice but to distribute his wealth equally between the two. And Gandhiji had the cause of 35 crore people before him.
Now I come to ‘Chanakya’. He was an unimaginable personality made of flesh and blood. Has the Almighty forgotten to create such Masterpieces anymore or has become scared that if men like Chanaky would be around people would stop coming to HIM as last refuge because Chanakya had a solution of every problem. Sometimes he sounded as if he was a ‘Tax Expert’ when he said that ‘Tax should be collected as painlessly as Butterfly collects Honey from Flower’. Sometimes he sounded like the ‘Convener’ of ‘National Government’, sometimes like Chief of Armed Forces and sometimes even like ‘Lalu Prasad Yadav’ too, the ‘King Maker’.
I don’t know what our Ministry of Information and Brodcasting is doing? Why doesn’t it revive these TV Serials rather than promoting the Immortal-able and Nauseating Saas Bahu Sagas which only depict the degeneration of the society.
Through your widely read column I appeal to our Minister of Information and Broadcasting to issue necessary orders for the re-telecast of Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi’s epic ‘Chanakya’ and I assure everybody that they would start naming their child after the name of the greatest man ever produced on earth – ‘KAUTILYA’.
