THE HEIGHT OF RELIGIOUS IMPOTENCY
What has been shown on a News Channel on the night of 29/09/2006 should make the entire country die of shame if it cannot retaliate against it.
During a Ramlila in Hardwar, Ravana was shown watching the dance of ‘Bar Girls’ in his Darbar. Quite obviously the ‘Bar Girls’ were skimpily clothed and were making more obscene moves than striptease dancers. But the worst was yet to come. One of those dancers, went upto Ravana’s throne, jumped, sat in his lap and kissed him. Can anybody imagine any further stooping from this level? Yes! Because instead of getting furious the so-called devotees of Rama who had come to see the shadow of Rama were cheering and applauding the height of indecency? Meanwhile the camera team of the channel was taking random interviews amongst the audience which put me into further shame when I heard an old man of 70 saying that he fully subscribed to this idea as Ramlilas are losing their popularity and there was no way left to drag people out of their homes. May I ask that insane old-man then why doesn’t he organize an in-house striptease by the ladies of his own house in order to get popular in the locality?
It is absolutely correct that ‘Ramlilas’ are getting unpopular with every passing year, which is although very unfortunate yet the reason is very simple and obvious. The growing popularity of Television over ‘Stage’ and ‘Real Time Shows’. Basically. The major part of the audience of Ramlilas used to consist of kids who are more interested now in Cartoon Network and other scientifically oriented programmes and movies like Spiderman, Superman, and Catwoman etc. The flying Bajranbali on ropes doesn’t amuse them anymore.
Nonetheless, all said and done. Inspite of all theses flip sides we have still not replaced our Gods and Deities with the statues of Superman and Powerpuff Girls. So why can’t we parents re-cultivate the same old fervor in the hearts of our kids towards Ramlila so that they should once again drag us towards these pandals.
Here I would like to cite the first hand example of my seven-year-old son who studies in the best public school of Delhi. These modern day’s schools are also responsible for the degeneration of the society. Because they are making these small kids memorise the residential addresses of Queen Elizabeth and President of America but are not bothered whether these kids who is President of India what to talk of Rama and Hanuman.
But what happened in Hardwar has surpassed all previous impotency of our religious instinct and yet again proved that ours is a society of spine-less people who can enjoy watching their Gods getting insulted publically without reacting.
Shame on us. Shame on audience and organizers of Ramlila at Hardwar. Only Satan would now do the justice due to them.
Sincerely,
