THE FAMILY OF APES

It is really very auspicious for me that I got lots of strange experience through zoological gardens. Ya! I also want to share with you my all queerly experience. I�ll tell you about the family of apes. Actually, ape is a member of a group of animals that most closely resemble human being. There are four major kinds of apes like Chimpanzees, Gibbons, Gorillas and Orangutans. All these animals have hairy, tailless bodies, longer arms than legs and longer fingers and toes. They also have large brains and are ranked as the most intelligent animals next to human being. These animals live in the tropical regions of Africa and Asia. Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Orangutans are known as the great apes. All the apes except Gorillas eat mostly fruit. Gorillas eat mainly ground plants such as wild celery and bamboo shots.
Now I want to describe about the apes characteristics one by one distinctly. Firstly Orangutan, it�s height 49 inches (124cms).They, Especially live in the tropical forests of Borneo and Sumatra. They spend most of the time in trees, though large males are often seen on the ground. They usually travel alone, but female and her offsprings travel together.
Secondly, Gorilla, its height is about 69 inches (174cms). They live in the lowland forest of Western and cultural Africa and in the mountain forests of Eastern Africa. Large males often sleep on the ground, but females and the young sleep in trees. They travel in groups of upto 20 individual. Older males develop a patch of white or silvery hair on their backs and are called silver backs. One of these males leads each group.
Next are the Chimpanzees which live in groups that vary from 20 to 40 numbers. Often the females leave their group and join another.
And the last kind of apes are Gibbons, its height is about 31 inches (80cms).They live in the tropical forests of South East Asia. They spend much time hanging from tree branches or swinging groups of a male and a female and their young. These are the most active kind of apes.
