She is simplistic, says the mostly bare walls
Coated in a smoky lilac paint
Her heart had been badly broken, says the pictures
Of a young man laying face down
With scattered gifts gathering dust on the shelf;
The girl cries at night says the tear-stained
Pillow clenched tightly by the girl
With the storm ridden face.
Memories lurked about the bedroom,
Says the Cinderella blue prom dress
And Valentine’s Day dried roses;
She sits alone says her closed door
Submerged by deep thoughts of perfection
And ideal happiness says her poetry;
Yet her heart is warm and sincere says
The sunlight engulfing the emptiness of the room.
Everything crashed down around her says
The soft, sad music drifting from the stereo;
She was not much for material things
Says the snapshots strewn about
Like leaves on an autumn’s ground;
The room changed when the boy ended it says the
Sapphire ring he gave her, lain upon the nightstand among
Other pieces of jewelry she received from him;
They say everything crashed down when he left her.
