An Approach
Lull me love, into a deep, mahogany sleep,
And cease the breath past the oceans deep.
Wine my eyes, so startled, fixed, in sane.
The glories lost, the lustrous cravings plain.
Flare my heart with psalms and elegies.
The tainted harp and hushed melodies.
Oh! Trace my grace in solemn solitude,
In meadows grey and darkening quietitude.
For dead is the soul, the heart in agony pays.
The reminiscence of those doting days.
The hearth, now ashes, warmed the icy manes.
“Tis gone!” they cried, “tis all but in vain.”
The gloom entraps the world of seasoned calm,
No virtuous morn can now afford a balm.
I in grave, the world round me’ live
The fate of care, alas! is but to die.
