RAMBLINGS
Posted by : Tanay Kumar Das on 31-Mar-2006 Total Views : 147

Must i speak to be heard,
or be heard to speak?
I will speak for my sanity,
for it to wander back to me.

Nay, no one listens,
no one cares, just stares.
what are they thinking?
of me in malice?

Ah a lil child,
very innocent, uncorrupted.
quite agile, holding the globe,
shutter... i feel a chill.

distractions, distractions,
i must see to my task at hand.
to be heard, or is it, ramblings?
ah ha, thats it, ramblings.

I bet you a thousand pounds,
they will listen in awe,
stunned stares at my brilliant mind.
I am a genius, I know i am.

Haaaaa ha ha ha ha ha
coughs,
smiles,
but, back to my task at hand.

The New Attaché

How strange to receive your email
Minutes after mine was sent.
Zip. Zap. It’s done.
Messages spiriting around fiber optic wire,
The collective we call Cyberspace,
The interconnectivity of all things,
A superhighway of electrons,
Moving at the speed of thought.
Suddenly, we have at our keyboards
The stuff dreams are made on.

By pony Express, in the old west,
It would have taken
A couple of horse whipping months
To send a message of India ink on rice paper
Half way across the North American continent.

In the time of Rome, only Caesar
Or one of his general’s
Could have gotten the message through
The miles of lonely rivers,
The hundreds of chariot wide rocky roads,
The battalions slugging it out in the muck and mire.

An older Horace would have preferred email
Written from a young boy
Rather then, by you, my new friend:
A young boy to fill him in
On the latest leisure time activities:
Sun bathing Euro style on a frothy beach,
Sleeping off a night of club raving,
And mischievous thumbs in a couple late night pies.
That would have given the Latin
A leathery Romanesque smile,
Or perhaps, even, a drop of sweaty stain
On his flaxen haired shirt tails.

My tastes are not quiet so exotic
Although by education and birth
I was required to read Him in the original
Worse agony then riding the bottom soring Express
On the hot dusty trail,
Mumbling what is no longer spoken:
Eheu fugaces labuntur anni.
(Alas, the fleeting years slip by)

Horace would certainly have approved
Of his words swirling at the speed of email.
I can see him typing into his Roman computer
On his Sabine farm outside the hurried city.
I’m sure of the pictorial orgies of the net
Would have made him rise to attention,
But his sense of decorum did not include
Our sense of middle class humdrum egalitarian freedom,
The empowering individual driving the web.
A free-the-slaves slogan would have given him the shivers:
Perish the Roman thought.
Who would tend the fields?
Shovel the shit?
Empty the cisterns?

And now as astronauts cruise the ionosphere
Constructing an orbiting space home
For those privileged few
Who wish to escape earth’s gravitational pull,
We can only wonder when we look up at the stars
And hope a God is listening
To our bedtime prayers
That our voice will sing out to the heavens
And be heard.
Because Lord knows
With satellites atwitter to our chagrin
Someone on earth has surely tuned in.

Phalon ki Rehri lagaa le
Saag-sabji bhi sajaa le,
ho sake to Dinanath
Paan bhi ab tu lagaa le.
Karm karta jayega to
Sapne Apne tu sajaa le,
Karm hi pooja hai pyare
Koshishon ki raah banaa le.
Ek din aisa bhi aaye
Dukaan tere naam hogi,
Chhal-kapat ki duniyan mein
Vyapaari ka bhesh banaa le.
Karm karte-karte tu bhi
Showroom ka maalik hoga,
Apne baagon ke phalon ko
Angrejon ko export kar le.
Sapno ki duniya mein khokar
Apnaa business tu badhaa le,
Website ka prachaar hai pyare
Whereincity se prachaar karaa le.

I KNEW THIS
Posted by : Tanay Kumar Das on 24-Mar-2006 Total Views : 154

I knew that this would happen
I knew that this would happen

I knew what you would do what was
I thinking when I decided to trust you

I let myself go because I fell in love
I gave you all I had I watched You give it up.

You took me for all I am
I'm trying to catch my breath

I didn't see it coming where are you going
and why are you running

I felt so helpless the day you went away
I watched in amazement at how easily

you let us go I don't understand you
I actually thought you'd stay.

now I'm watching you run I gave you all I have
I let you see me I gave it all to you and now
I watch you leave me

MY FEAR !
Posted by : Tanay Kumar Das on 21-Mar-2006 Total Views : 180

Not knowing how to judge things
Which way right and which one wrong
This road of fear will never end
Cant hold on to being strong
A feeling of weakness
Over casts u with fear
Wishing u would reach out
And someone would be near
But your left with an empty hand
And an empty heart
Thinking they’d be there forever
Instead they quit from the start
To face reality to actually feel
The loss of one thing u thought no one could steal
But knowing u thought wrong
And u cant change the past
Just knowing this feeling will always last
Because they weren’t there for u
The way u thought they would
The way they promised to all ways care
The way they really should
But nothing can ever change this
Not in years to come
Wishing that this feeling would leave
And to all pain you’d be numb
But some wishes don’t come true
As hard as u may try
Sometimes u have to face what’s real
And hide the tears u cry
Because no one can relate to u
No one knows exactly how you’ve felt
No one knows the pain and strife
When dealing with the cards you’ve been dealt

About Happiness
Posted by : Parveen Arora on 20-Mar-2006 Total Views : 170

If a happiness poem could bring forth a smile,
Then my face would always dress in style.

If my ears could hear my computer screen,
From one to another, they, too, would grin.

My keyboard types for my eyes not my tongue
This happiness poem will never be sung.

But what of my eyes? Don't they shine?
Yes, but not from this poem of mine.

The pen is mightier than the sword,
But a pen can write only words.

The feelings I sense and the senses I feel
For keyboard and screen remain far too real.

My ears and my nose remain at rest.
My cheeks and hairline are doing their best.

But if this happiness poem could make my mouth smile,
My face would forever dress up in style.
