Alexei Kervezee made his first-class debut for his national team against Scotland in the Intercontinental Cup.Another of the new young breed and the best of the bunch. He has been ironically nicknamed "Rowdy" by his team-mates due to his quiet nature but, once in the middle, he is very difficult to faze. He has been signed on a two year contract by Worcestershire from the 2007 season where chief executive Mark Newton described him as "a very accomplished and exciting young talent," and Holland's bowling coach Ian Pont has described him as having "shades of Graeme Hick". His impressive 47 in Sri Lanka on debut certainly lends weight to his reputation and showcased his ability to build innings and the 2007 World Cup is likely to be a valuable learning curve for him. Only four other players have featured at the World Cup at the tender age of 17, one of them being Javed Miandad. |
