Other Districts


The Boundaries of Nalgonda district are Krishna and Khammam districts in the East, Mahaboobnagar and Hyderabad districts in the West, Mahabubnagar and Guntur districts in the South and Medak and Warangal districts in the North directions. Krishna, Musi, Dindi are rivers of the district. Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Suryapet, Kodad, Bhongir are the main towns. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, Pillalamarri, Nandikonda, Panugallu, Nagarjunakonda, Nagarjunasagar - Srisailam Sanctuary, Bhongiri Fort, Rachakonda Fort, Wadapally, Gajulabanda, Phanigiri Buddhist sites and Pochampally textile center are the main places of interest and Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Yadagiri Gutta, Kolanpaka Jain temple, Mattapalle temple and Rachakonda temples are the places of religious importance. Wooden crafts of Bhongir, Brass ware of Chanduru, Textiles of Koyyalagudem, Puttapaka and Pochampalli are the main handicraft of the district. Deccan Cements, Nagarjuna Cements, Raasi Cements, Kakatiya Cements, Nizam Sugar factory are the prime industry of the district. Forest occupies an area of 44% of the total district area. The district is placed in Number one position in cement production in the State. Ingredients used in the cement manufacturing are surplus in most parts of the district. So as many major cement

factories are holding their stake in this arena. Deccan Cements at Huzurnagar, Nagarjuna Cements at Ketupally, Raasi Cements near Miryalaguda, Kakatiya Cements at Kodada, are the major cement producing houses in the district as well as in the State. Nizam Sugar factory situated at Miryalaguda is another major sugar factory in the state. Pochampally Handlooms have their special place in the Garments industry is a product of this district. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam , the biggest earth dam in the World is the chief irrigation and power source to the state. The other sources of water to this district are through Left Nagarjuna Canal, Asifnagar, Saligauravam and Dindi Projects. Degree Colleges are affiliated to Nagarjuna University of Guntur Dist. Nalgonda is 103 kms from Hyderabad is well connected by road with important towns in the state.

Nellore District

Nellore district is Bounded by Bay of Bengal in the East, Tamilnadu State and Chittoor district in the South, Cuddapah district in the West and Prakasam district in the North directions. Pennar, Kandaleru, Swarnamukhi, Upputeru are the rivers of the district. Nellore, Gudur, Naidupeta, Kavali and Sullurpeta are the main towns. Pulicat Sanctuary, Sangam, Sriharikota SHAR Space Center, Udhayagiri, Nelapattu Sanctuary and Jonnawada are the places of interest and Talapagiri Ranganatha Swamy temple, Jonnawada temple, Penchalakonda temple, Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple and Sri Ranga Nayaka Swamy Temples at Nellore are the places of religious importance. Venkatagiri Sarees and Leather Toys are the handicraft of the district. Dairy milk, Straw Board and Nippo Battery at Nellore, Sugar factory, Mica, Stone Polishing and Fisheries are the prime industries of the district. Nellore Town is also called as Vikrama Simhapuri. Forest area is only 18% of the total district area. Social forestry drive is in progress in many parts of the district. Pulicat Lake declared as the Birds Sanctuary with an area of 500 Sq.km, housing many rare birds. Tigers and Cheetahs Sanctuary near Velugonda are the efforts made by the Government in maintaining the Eco-Systems. Rice from this part is said to be the finest and of Top quality. Nippo - Batteries an Indo-Japanese collaboration plant is a major industry. Paddy Business is high in this district. Fisheries are fruitful because of the Coastline it's having and the Pulicat Lake.

There are many Medium scale Irrigation projects built in this district. Somasila project built on the river Pennar in 1875 is the biggest one in the district. Another Project was built on the river Pennar in 1886 at Sangam near Nellore. The Telugu Ganga project Currently under construction will fulfill water needs of this district to some extent. Veligonda project will also supply water to this district. The Galeru- Nagari and Sajala Sravanthi canals are the major sources of drinking water. Thermal Power Project situated at head quarters Nellore caters the power supply to the Mica mines and to domestics. Nellore is well connected by road and rail. The nearest airport is at Tirupati. It is 138 km from Vijayawada.

This district was formed in the year 1905. Nizamabad District is bounded by Karimnagar district, Medak district, Nandhedu district in Maharastra state and Adilabad district in the East, South, West and North directions respectively. Godavari, Manjeera, Phalungi, Yedlakattavagu are main rivers. Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Bodhan, Armur are main towns. Nizam Sagar Dam, Ali Sagar Reservoir, Pochampadu Project, Bodhan, Pocharam Sanctuary and Nizamabad fort are the main places of interest and Sri Neelakanteswara temple, Sarangapuram Hanuman temple at Nizamabad and Kentu Masjid are the main places of religious importance. Forest area occupies 21% of the district area. Quality Timber is extracted from these forests, Tamarind and Honey are the other products obtained from these woods. Bodhan Sugar Factory , the biggest sugar factory in Andhra Pradesh is a major industrial establishment of the district. Confectioneries and Alcohol units are also found in some parts of the district. The project built on river Manjeera at Achampeta, Pocharam, and Poochampadu, Ramadugu Projects are the major irrigation sources. All Degree colleges are affiliated to the Osmania University - Hyderabad. Nizamabad is well connected by road with Karimnagar, Adilabad, Warangal, Nanded (Maharashtra) and Hyderabad city. 163 kms. Nizamabad railway station is on the Kachiguda - Manmad line of the south central railway. Hydrabad airport is the nearest airport.

Prakasam District

This district was formed In the year 1970. Some Taluks in this district were added from Guntur, Nellore and Kurnool districts. The Boundaries of Prakasam district are Bay of Bengal in the East, Cuddapah and Nellore districts in the South, Kurnool district in the West and Guntur district in the North directions. Gundlakamma and Paleru are main rivers. Ongole, Markapuram, Chirala, Giddalur, Addanki and Singarayakonda are main towns. ILTD Company and Cashew nut Industry at Vetapalem are prime industries. Nagarjunasagar - Srisailam sanctuary, Mothupalle, Vodarevu, Chadavaram, Gundla Brahmeswaram Sanctuary and ILTD Company are the main places of interest and Singarayakonda Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple, Markapur Laxmi Chennakesava Swamy temple, Ongole Chennakesava temple, Kasi Visweswara temple, Bhairavakonda, Manikeswaram, Malakonda temples, temples at Tripurantakam and Sri Hanuman Devasthanam at Addanki are the places of religious importance. Forests occupy 25% of the total district area. Under Social forestry scheme Eucalyptus plantations are carried over in the coastal belts. World Bank Aid promotes orchids and Cashew nut farming in some parts of the district. The Stone used in the manufacturing of Slates, Gypsum and small amounts of Copper are the minerals obtained from these lands. APIDC -Andhra Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation is promoting the young Industrialists from Computer Software, biotechnology and the Non conventional Energy Sources projects. ITC at Cheerala is another major Player in employment generation source in the district. Handlooms of Cheerala that are very much acknowledged by the people of AP. Nagarjuna Sagar's Right canal provide the irrigation to the farming lands of these areas. All Degree Colleges are affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University - Tirupathi. Ongole is an important rail head on Chennai - Waltair line. It is well connected by rail and road. It is 138 km from Vijayawada.

Rangareddy District

This district is named after the famous freedom fighter and Telanga leader Sri. Ranga Reddy as Rangareddy district. This district was earlier included in the Hyderabad district and later formed as a seperate district in the year 1978. The boundaries of Rangareddy district are Nalgonda district, Mahabubnagar district, Karnataka state and Medak district in the East, South, West and North directions respectively. Musi is the main river. Tandur, Ibrahimpatnam, Chevella, Medchl, Hayatnagar and Vikarabad are main towns. Cement factory at Tandur, Hyderabad Chemicals and Fertilizers at Moula-Ali, Midhani, H.M.T and E.C.I.L are prime industries. Himayatsagar Dam, Osmansagar Dam and Vikarabad are the main places of interest and Ananthaswamy Temple at Ananthagiripalle are the places of religious importance. Area occupied by Forest is only 9.6% of the district area. Social forestry is making all its efforts in growing Eucalyptus trees and other plants. Quartz is found in many parts of the district and also Jambala Clays which are used in Bricks, Drainage Pipes Manufacturing. Grapes from this part of the state have acquired International recognition with Anabshahi type. Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University (Angrau) at Rajendranagar has won many credits and recognized as the best university at the National Level. The Students of the research team and the faculty are helping the farmers in choosing the correct crop and the quality seeds for better yield. Medium Scale Industries and Cement Corporation of India's Cement Factories are established at Tandur. Hyderabad Chemicals and Fertilizers at Moula-Ali established in 1942 are to name few. Defense Ministry's MIDHANI - Mishrit Dhathu Nigam, ECIL -The First Computer to be manufactured in India, HMT are the Public Sector firms. Fresh Water reservoir on river Musi at Gandipet called Osman Sagar is the Prime Drinking Water source to the Capital City of Hyderabad. Agriculture University is established at Rajendernagar in this district where research operations for getting more yields are taking place. All the Colleges are affiliated to Osmania University. Srikakulam District

The boundaries of this district are Bay of Bengal in the East, Vijayanagaram district in the South and Orissa state borders in the West and North directions. Vamshadhara, Nagavali, Mahendra and Tanaya are main rivers. Baruva beech, Kaviti, Buddha Statue at Rayatheertham are places of interest and Arasavally Sun temple, Srikurmum temple, Sri Mukhalingam temple are places of religious importance. Forest area occupies 15.6% of the total district area. Tribal Corporation is making every effort in uplifting the Tribal of this area. Bamboo and quality Timber are the products obtained from these woods.Manganese is surplus in these district and Mica in some parts of the district. Graphite and different Clays are also available. Jute Industry is the biggest industry in the district. Cashew nut tree, Orchids are grown with World Bank Aid. AP's first built hydroelectric Project on the Machkand River is the water source and Power sources to the district
Srikakulam is located 104 kms from Visakhapatnam. It is well connected by Road and rail. Nearest airport is at Visakhapatnam.

Visakhapatnam District

Srikakulum and Vijayanagaram districts were under this district before the formation of the two districts in 1950 and 1979 respectively. The boundaries of this district are Bay of Bengal in the East, East Godavari district in the South, Orissa state in the West and North directions. Ages ago there stood a temple on the shores dedicated to Vaisaka, the God of Valour in the Hindu pantheon. The mighty sea has since swept away the shrine, but the name survived for identifying the now sprawling City of Visakhapatnam. Vast stretches of beaches right next to the city on one side and undulating green hills on the other have made Vizag, a heaven. Great stretches of coast with largely undiscovered beaches of all types ran from Visakh to the old Dutch trading centre of Bheemunipatnam. Vishakapatnam so often called as the Metropolitan City of Andhra Pradesh has developed a lot since last decade. Andhra University's Head Quarters at Vishakapatnam is a very old university. Shopping is usually not an important activity when in Visakhapatnam. Visakha Utsav is organised by A.P. Tourism every year from the third Friday to Sunday of January i.e. for three days in Vishakhapatnam. It's the festival special for 'Vizagites', in the cold month of January. Tyda park, Araku Valley, Borra caves, Rishikonda beach, Bhimunipatnam Beach, Dolphin Nose, Baruva beach, Vuda park, Visakha utsav, Visakhapatnam Harbour, Lawsons bay, Sankaram, Kalingapatnam beach, Rama Krishna beach, Mudasarlova Water Park, Ross Hills, Kailasagiri, Keertana Vanamu, Indira Zoological park, Visakha Museum, Submarine Museum, Anthropology Museum, Andhra University, Hindustan Shipyard, Caltex Oil Refinery, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Chintapally and Talakona Forests are main places of interest and Simhachalam Temple, Dargakonda, Sri Venkateswara Swamy konda, Upamaka temple, Anakapally Sri Kanyaka Parameswary Temple are places of religious importance.

Industry and Agriculture

This coastal city is the commercial and industrial heart of Andhra Pradesh's isolated north-east corner, and is home to India's largest shipbuilding yard. Visakha Steel Plant, Coramandal Fertilizers, Andhra Pradesh Refractory, Ship Building, Caltex Oil Refinery, Bharat heavy Plates and Pencils are prime industries. Major Industries are setup in the district especially in the Head quarters because of the Seaport. Vishakapatnam Port - Which is called as the Natural Harbor Because of the Natural formation of the mountain peaks of the shape of Dolphin Nose emerging from the sea, making this Port an unique one. Vishakapatnam is also called as Waltair or Vizag. Vishakapatnam Thermal Power project is the Power source to the State as well as to the neighboring states. Upper Seleru Hydro Power Project Producing electricity at a Less Expensive rates is another feather in the Cap to this Industrious district. Etikoppaka Toys are main handicraft of the district. Titanium's ores, Magnalyte and Bauxite ores, quality Clays, Mica, and Graphite are the minerals found in this soil. Forest occupies 42% of the district area. Forest yields quality Timber and Bamboo useful in Paper Industry. State Forest Department Planted Cashewnut trees and Eucalyptus trees throughout the district. Coffee Estates are picking up their produce each year of progress. Sharada, Varsha, Tandava, Machkand, Chempavathi and Gostnani are main rivers. Polavaram Project on the River Godavari is the Irrigation source to these lands. Electricity needs of the district are fulfilled by Hydro Power project on Machkand River.

Vizianagaram District

This district was formed in the year 1979. The Boundaries of this district are Srikakulum district in the East, Vijayanagaram district in the South, Orissa state and Vishakapatnam district in the West and Orissa state in the North directions. Gouthami, Nagavali, Chempavathi, Swarnamuki and Vedavathi are main rivers. Bobbili , Parvatheepuram are main towns. Jute, Musical Instruments are main industries. Bobbili fort, Vizianagaram fort, Chipurupalle and Ramathirtham are main places of interest. Bobbili Veenas are the main handicraft of the district. Quality Timber is obtained from this Forest. Tribal Cooperatives are extracting Honey and other Commodities from these woods and are distributed to other centers in Andhra Pradesh social forestry drive is working briskly in this area. Manganese, some Clays are found in the district. Small amounts of Mica are also found in some parts of the district. 50% of the Jute produced in Andhra Pradesh Comes from this district. Four out of Eight Jute Industry units were in this district. Bobbili is another place which is famous for its Musical Instrument 'Veena', which is of the highest degree of precision acknowledged worldwide. All Colleges are affiliated to Andhra University - Waltair. Vizianagaram is located 60 kms from visakhapatnam. It is well connected by Road and rail. Visakhapatnam Airport is the nearest airport.

Warangal District

The Boundaries of Warangal district are Khammam district, Nalgonda and Khammam districts, Nalgonda, Medak, Karimnagar districts and Karimnagar district in the East, South, West and North directions respectively. Godavari,Vijakeru, Pakeru, Aleru, Munneru, Vaira are the main rivers. Hanamakonda, Warangal are main towns. Warangal Fort, Pakhal Lake, Pakhal and Eturinagaram sanctuaries, Ghanpur are the places of interest and Thousand Pillared Temple, Ramappa Temple, Ghanapur, Kazipet Dargah and Bhadrakali temples are main places of religious importance. Wildlife Sanctuary at Yeturi Nagaram protecting wildlife at an area of 1000 Sq.km. Handicrafts are the another area where this district is proving to be fruitful. Pembarthi Metal Crafts, Banjara Fabrics, Warangal Rumals, Warangal Carpets and Nakashow Paintings are main handicrafts of the district. Andhra Rayons Ltd., at Yeturi Nagaram, Textile mill and Beriya salt at Warangal are main industries. Forest area in this district is nearly 29% of the total district area, and produces quality Timber and other Vegetation useful to common man in his day-to day life. Coal is the chief mineral found in this part of the state, and Singareni Collieries Company a Public sector undertaking is looking after the extraction of the coal from the mines to be used in power generation. Apart from this Iron ore is also found in some parts of the district. Andhra Rayon's Limited at Yeturi Nagaram is major Industry based on the Forest based products. The water source of this district is Malleruvagu Project. About 150 kms. from Hyderabad lies the ancient city of Warangal with an area of 54.98 sq.m. Warangal city today is part of a cluster of three towns - Warangal, Kazipet and Hanamkonda, the district headquarters. Kazipet is the major railway junction. Kakatiya University established in the year 1976 at Head quarters Warangal, Regional Engineering College, and a Medical College are the educational Institutions based in the dist head quarters.

West Godavari District

This district was formed in 1925. The boundaries of this district are East Godavari district in the East and North, Krishna district and Bay of Bengal in the South and Krishna and Khammam districts in the West directions. Godavari, Yerrakaluva, Bineru are main rivers. Narasapuram, Eluru, Tanuku, Bhimavaram, Thadepalligudem are main towns. Andhra Sugars, Bhimadole, Chagallu Sugar Factories, Andhra Pradesh Strawboard ltd., Ambica Durbar Agarbathi, Fish and Hatchery Forms are main industries of the district. Kolleru Lake, Papikonda & Kolleru Sanctuaries and Guntupally Buddist site are main places of interest and Dwaraka Thirumala, Natta Rameswaram, Pattisam, Soma Ramam and Kshera Ramam are the places of religious importance. Nidudavolu Bags, eluru Woolen piled Carpets and Nasapur Laces are the main handicraft of the district. Andhra Sathavahanas, Chalukyans, Vijayanagara kings, Nizam Nawabs and Britishers ruled over this Place. In the olden days this place used to be a part of Vengi Country. It is said that Pedavegi near Eluru was the capital of Vengi Country. Eluru is the headquarters of West Godavari district. The main attractions of the town are the temples of Janardhana and Jalapaharesvara. There are also relics of an ancient fort. Forest area occupies only 11% of the total district area. Natural Gas was found in near Narasapuram region and the exploration is in progress with the ONGC looking for the presence of the Crude Oil. Andhra Sugar Factory at Tanuku though a private establishment is coined as the major industry in the district. Andhra Pradesh Straw Boards Limited at Bheemavaram is one based on the forest Products. Incandescent or Agarbathi Industry is the major industry showing employment to thousands of families. Sri Ambica Durbar Agarbathi of Eluru is famous world wide. Coir and Carpets industry are flourishing with surplus stock of Coconut Coir. Dhavaleswaram Barrage on River Godavari near Rajahmudry is a major irrigation source to the lands. Electric supply to this district is mainly from Machkand hydro power project and Natural gas power plant at Vijjeswaram in East Godavari district. All Degree Colleges are affiliated to Andhra University - Vishakapatnam.

Eluru is located 60 kms from Vijayawada. Eluru is an important railhead on Chennai - Kolkata line. The nearest airport is at Vijayawada which is at a distance of 57 km from Eluru.
