Dhalai District is the youngest district in Tripura. It is formed in 1995. The District is rich in natural resources. More than 70% area of this district is hilly and forest covered. It has tremendous scenic beauty. The district Headquarter is situated at Ambassa which is around 90 KM from the state capital Agartala. It is connected through NH 44 and takes around 3 hours to reach. There is no Railway Station in this district. Construction of new railway lines is going on very smoothly.
Industry
There is a Pineapple juice concentration plant of North Eastern Regional Agriculture Marketing Corporation Ltd. (Neramac) situated at Nalkata. This is the only major industrial setup in the district.
Apart from this, there are a lot of Handicraft industries in the unorganised sector. One of the major product of these industries are Incense sticks.
Places of Interest
Longtharai Mandir
Longtharai is the name of " God Shiba" in "KOK BOROK" the Tribal dialect of Tripura. It is stated that "Shiba" during his travel from Kailash rested here for sometime in the hill of Longtharai. The hill is therefore known as Longtharai. Longtharai also means a " Deep Valley". Longtharai Mandir is situated in the Longtharai range. "Khumpi" the hilly flowers bloom in the road side .Longtharai temple is a place of permanent beauty to the lovers of nature and a place of devotion to thousands of people.
How to reach
Longtharai Temple is situated on 44 National Highway and it is about 102 kms from Agartala, the State Capital of Tripura and 56 Kms from Kumarghat,the last rail Head of Tripura. Since it is situated on the national high-way it is easily accessible by buses and car. Best season to visit is September and May.
Kamaleswari Mandir ( Temple)
Kamaleswari is another name of Goddess Kali. Kamalpur the largest Sub-divisional Town has been named after the temple.
How to reach
Kamaleswari Mandir is situated in the centre point Kamalpur town which is about 35 kms away from Ambassa ,District H.Q of Dhalai and 122 kms from Agartala the State capital of Tripura. One can reach from Agartala by Bus and Car and from Kumarghat (the last rail head) by Bus and Car. Best season to visit is September and May.
