The North Tripura District has a geographical area of 2,469.90 Sq. Km and is divided into three sub-divisions, namely, Dharmanagar, Kanchanpur and Kailashahar. For the purpose of developmental activities it is divided into eight Blocks namely Kumarghat, Panisagar, Pecharthal, Kadamtala, Damcherra, Dasda, Gournagar and Jampui Hill.There are three Nagar Panchayats at Dharmanagar, Kailashahar and Kumarghat.Main tribes of the District are Tripuri, Koloi,Halam, Chakma.Two Hill ranges, namely Jampui, Sakan run almost parallal to each other in the District. "Betling Chip", the highest point of the state(939m. ht.), is located in the District in the Jampui range. Deo, Manu, Longai and Juri are the main rivers. Rock carvings and temples dating back to the 8th century are seen at "UNOKUTI" (about one less then one crore of God and Goddesses) situated at about 10 Km from the District Head quater.

Places of Interest
Unakoti
There is a profusion of rock-cut images, belonging to 11-12th century A.D. , intricate and finely executed. This is as such an open air art gallery. Truly, over the backdrop of widespread hill ranges, surrounded by lush green and bush, a large no. of colossal figures of Hindu gods & goddesses engraved in a 45 mtr. Hillock. The place is 8 KM from District hq. Kailashahar and 180 KM from capital Agartala. Behind the name Unakoti, i.e. short of one crore. According to mythology, the dawn broke out while the craftsman had just finished making of one crore images of Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Hara-Gauri, Ganesh etc. Unakoti is termed as "Shaiva-Tirtha" which is visited by thousands of pious people from all over the region particularly during Ashokastami Mela in March-April to take a holy dip.
Jampui Hill
The place which was once merely an orange producing zone now has become a holiday summer resort. While the sun sinks, colours change and rearrange themselves every minute in quick succession. This is Jampui hills, the permanent abode of spring. Jampui where the sky leans on the hills and a sweet breeze flows down the valleys all time, is situated 3000 ft above sea level. Orange and Tourism Festival is held every year in the month of November-December.
