Bleeding from the gums is mainly due to inadequate plaque removal from the teeth at the gum line. This will lead to a condition called gingivitis, or inflamed gums. If plaque is not removed through regular brushing and dental appointments, it will harden into what is known as tartar. Ultimately, this will lead to increased bleeding and a more advanced form of gum and jawbone disease known as periodontitis.

Symptoms

When you check your mouth, see if you have any of these:

1. Gums are red,soft,puffy or swollen
2. Gums bleeding during brushing or flossing
3. Teeth that look longer caused by gum recession
4. Gums separating ,or pulling away, from teeth
5. Teeth shifting or loosing
6. Changes in the way you teeth fit when biting
7. Constant bad breath or a bad taste in mouth
8. Pus coming from between teeth and gums

3. Toothbrush abrasion,improper flossing
4. Infection,which can be either tooth or gum-related
5. Chemical irritants such as aspirin
6. Leukemia
7. Placement of new dentures can lead to denture sores/irritation
8. Teething in babies and young children.
9. Pregnancy,blood-thining medications,or bleeding disorders,each can cause gums to bled easily
10. Lack vitamins, such as vitamin K or vitamin C,or medical problems, such as anemia,that interfere with the body’s ability to absorb certain vitamins.

1. Floss at least once a day
2. Brush after every meal
3. Use a water pick to help flush out food from between teeth
4. Have your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year
5. Use a mouth rinse to help prevent bacteria buildup in the mouth
6. Have regular checkups with your dentist
