Stapling (MIPH) minimally invasive procedure for haemorrhoids-

Stapling is an alternative to a traditional haemorrhoidectomy. It's usually only done to treat prolapsed haemorrhoids and is carried out under general / regional anaesthetic. The piles are stapled to the wall of the anal canal, which reduces their blood supply and makes them smaller.

The surgery is performed in the painless area of the anal canal ie. Above the dentate line which makes the procedure virtually painfree.

Principle of the surgery here is to  bring up the prolapsed mucosa into its original position, lifting the hemorrhoidal tissue into place.

• MIPH device is utilized to retract excess mucosal tissue.
• Once the excess tissue is retracted, the device then removes the excess tissue and reconnects and restores the anal canal wall with the help of the titanium staples
• MIPH reduces the blood flow to both the internal and external hemorrhoids, which will typically shrink 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure.

RECOMMENDATION

• First & Second degree haemorrhoids are to be treated conservatively.
• MIPH can be performed on patients with 2nd (after failure of other therapies), 3rd, and 4th degree hemorrhoids
• MIPH offers less pain and a quicker recovery to patients in comparison to conventional hemorrhoid techniques

In general, you could return to work within 3-4 days or  so.

MIPH  has the advantage of having a shorter recovery time and it also tends to be less painful than a haemorrhoidectomy.

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks that accompany MIPH: 

If too much muscle tissue is drawn into the device, it can result in damage to the rectal wall, resulting in inflammation or infection.(very rare)

The internal muscle of the sphincter may be damaged, resulting in short-term dysfunction, such as severe pain or incontinence.(Very rare)
