Movie Report
'Vivah' means 'Marriage' and as the name goes it's about relationship between two individuals and their unconditional love for each other.
The movie is directed by Marriage Specialist Sooraj Barjatya under the banner of Rajshri Productions. This is the fifth movie of sooraj barjatya, the last one being Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003). It stars Shahid Kapoor as Prem, Amrita Rao as Poonam, Alok Nath as Poonam's chacha, Seema Biswas as Poonam's chachi, Anupam Kher as Prem's father(Mr. Harish Chandra), Manoj Joshi(Bhagatji) as the matchmaker and Amrita Prakash as Poonam's cousin Rajni (chacha's daughter).
Poonam belongs to an upper middle class family whose parents passed away when she was quite young. Her chacha took care of her like her own daughter and became a father figure. Poonam's chachi never liked her because of the fact that she was more beautiful than her own daughter Rajni.
As the years pass by poonam becomes more beautiful and acquires all the qualities a traditional indian woman should have. Her personality traits wins the heart of Bhagat ji. Impressed by Poonam, bhagat ji takes poonam's marriage proposal for rich businessman Harish Chandra's son Prem.
Prem is reluctant to get married but however keeping in mind his father's wish he agrees to meet Poonam. The two meet and like each other and get engaged. And it's decided that the two will get married after six months. Their fondness for each other matures into love and this span of six months becomes the most delightful and romantic experience of their lives. The two develop a level of understanding for each other and commit to a life long relationship.
When everything seems to be going smooth for poonam and prem and just when the six months end, there is a crisis which will test their commitment and love for each other.
Vivah is that depiction of marriage which is missing in the present scenario of matrimony and that depiction entails Marriage as a sacred institution bonded by unconditional love.
Ravindra Jain who's done most of the music for Rajshri productions once again returns as the music director for Vivah.
The songs are pretty ordinary and not really peppy or lively. 'Hamari Shaadi Mein' sung by Babul Supriyo and Shreya Ghoshal is one good song to listen to. As compared to previous Rajshri Productions like 'Maine pyar kiya' and 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' the songs of Vivah don't live up to the expectations of the Music Rajshri Productions has been known for.
