Guru is the tale of one man’s triumph over his adversities and adversaries to become the most renowned and respected name in the business industry. This man is Gurukant Desai (Abhishek Bachchan), whose life and achievements are broadly based on a great visionary, Dhirubhai Ambani.
Gurukant Desai is a villager with ambitions. His ambitions bring him to Mumbai along with his wife Sujata (Aishwarya Rai) and brother-in-law Shyam Saxena (R. Madhavan). He has only two shirts to wear and Rs.15,000 to start his business. His ambitions get a jolt when he gets negative response from those dealing in the business industry.
During those days the market was ruled by the elite who were veterans and who did not encourage any newcomers especially if that person happened to be from a middle class. Nonetheless Gurukant was a man who would not accept defeat. From here on begins his real struggle to establish himself and break the conventional set up.
With sheer grit to realize his dreams he makes a humble start with his company Shakti Trading. Gurukant adopts an aggressive approach in the wake of tough competition and while doing so he does twist the arms of law at times which in turn earn him some enemies like Nanaji (Mithun Chakraborty ). Nanaji, a newspaper editor was once an admirer of Gurukant but when he realizes his unlawful ways, he turns against him. But at the same time his honesty also earns him admirers like Meenu (Vidya Balan).
Gurukant is riding the waves of success but Nanaji wants to put an end to his unfair means.

Abhishek: Adakaari Ke Guru
by Asif Ali (posted on : 11-Jan-07) Rating: (Good)
Abhishek ne to kamal hi kardi hai.
Abhishek sahi mein kaafi hadd tak ‘Adakaari Ke Guru’ saabit hote jaa rahe hain.
Dhoom-2 mein Hrithik ke liye kaafi ‘Taarifon Ke Pool Bhandey Gaye Thay’ aur Abhishek ko bhula diya gaya thaa, ‘Guru’ Hirthik ko ek tarah se Jawab hai , Abhi ka, ke- ‘Wo Bhi Kam Nahin’.
Mani Ratnam achhe nirdeshak hi nahin kaafi shaatir bhi hain jo unho ne Aishwarya aur Abhishek ki jodi ko chuna. Kyonki yeh jodi kaafi charcha mein hai aur iss baat ka fayda, Mani Saab ne, poora-poora uthaane ki koshish ki hai.
Dekha jaye to Aishwarya ko aisi film jisme unn ka role ‘Na Ke Barabar Hai’, karne ki kya zaroorat thi(Kaam ka Kaam aur Saath mein Romance).
Zaahir hai “Aag Dono Taraf Barabar Lagi Hui Hai!!”

Guru has Abhishek written all over it as he dominates throughout the movie. He is very much convincing in the role of Gurukant Desai. His acting proves his versatility as an actor and also the depth to which he can go underneath the skin of a character chosen to be played.
Not to forget the director-Mani Ratnam who has not only brought the best from Abhishek but who also has given Abhishek, the role of his life.
Madhavan and Mithun have also given good performances.
The ladies- Aishwarya Rai and Vidya Balan have proved themselves to be-‘Just Good Showpieces’.
Mallika Serawat though seems to have better of the two with her performance in the song 'Mayaa Mayya' and Abhishek is very much impressed, claiming her to be a fantastic and a fabulous co-star.
Inspirational

Mani Ratnam a name to reckon makes meaningful movies. Guru is no different. It gives us the inspiration to rise and achieve our dreams no matter how big they are and no matter how big the obstacles stand in our way.
Abhishek Bachchan has given his best ever performance of his career.
Not much to look for in Aishwarya’s performance though.
