Sankat City is a simple yet excellent comedy film directed by Pankaj Advani. The film neither has a big starcast nor does it have a brilliant music yet the film is able to impress the viewers. The film has a simple story. It makes the viewers laugh at right places.
Guru [Kay Kay Menon] is a small-time car thief. Ganpat [Dilip Prabhawalkar], who owns a dilapidated garage, is his partner-in-crime. Guru robs cars and Ganpat gives them a make-over in order to sell them for tidy profits.
One night, Guru chances upon a swank Mercedes parked outside a brothel, unattended. He steals the car and takes it to Ganpat. While working on the car, they discover a sum of Rs. 1 crore in it. They are delirious with joy at the unexpected turn of events. Little do they know what's in store, for the car and the money belong to a gangster called Faujdaar [Anupam Kher]. What happens next?
The film seems little difficult to understand in first half but as soon as the character are introduced at very outset the film becomes very entertaining.
Acting wise, Dilip Prabhawalkar delivers a winning performance. Kay Kay Menon is superb as a car thief. Anupam Kher is top notch. He is simply excellent. Chunky Pandey, Sanjay Mishra, Hemant Pandey, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma and Rahul Dev are commendable. They have played their character excellently.
On the whole, Sankat City is a film that comes under the category of intelligent comedy.
The characters and storyline has been integrated in such a way that makes the film standout. Good work by Pankaj Advani who is director as well as writer of this film. Overall the film leaves an impression on viewers minds.
