Movie Report
Luck directed by Soham Shah is totally an action film. In this film Soham has launched a new face, Shruti Hassan (daughter of Kamal Hassan). The film has a simple story good starcast and great actions. Luck is a hi-concept film. The film may not be high on story, but the concept and at least four stylised thrilling sequences make a big difference.
Luck tells the tale of mafia kingpin Musa (Sanjay Dutt), who has one obsession: To revolutionize the betting industry. For him, life is a gamble and what better way to skew the odds than play with those with luck on their side.
Now the highest bet is always placed on Imran Khan (Ram Mehra). His father (Harshad Mehta) committs suicide and is left with a huge Rs 20 crore debt to pay off and his mother is not even aware of it!
As luck would have it, he meets Tamang Thapa (Danny Denzongpa) who is Moosa's right hand man. He is on the lookout for those with luck. Tamang promises him Rs 20 crore for 20 days of Fear Factor type of work in South Africa. As luck would have it, he comes out alive!
There is also Retd Colonel Veer Pratap Singh (Mithun Chakraborty) along with Raghav (Ravi Kissen) and Ayesha (Shruti Haasan) on who bets are placed. Veer Pratap is there because he needs Rs 25 lakhs for his wife's treatment; Raghav's luck saves him from the noose. He is a serial killer set free because according to the law, if a criminal does not die while being hanged, he has to be set free. His rope gives way. Super luck. And Shruti is there to take revenge for her twin sister who commits suicide. She thinks Moosa is the one responsible for her death. What happened next? Does their luck work?, is rest of the story.
Acting wise, Sanjay Dutt steals the show. He is superb. Mithun Chakraborty delivers a truly fine performance. Danny Denzongpa is, as always, so perfect. Imran Khan is getting better with every film. Shruti Hassan is a star. She has a screen presense and looks gorgeous on screen. Being a star daughter her acting is ok as for the first film.
On the whole, Luck can be carried only on actions and powerful performance of stars. The screenplay and the tight script works for the film. This is a one time watch movie.
