Family is the story of two families, that of Amitabh Bachchan and that of Akshay Kumar - two worlds totally different from each other and how these worlds collide with catastrophic consequences one fateful night.
Family is the story of Shekhar, a man who didn't have much in life, but whose one and only investment pays off fully i.e., his Family.
It is the story of Aryeman, powered by the love of his family, which gives him the strength to take on the might of an invincible gangster.
It is the story of Sharda, a woman who feared her whole life that her family would have to pay for her husband's sins and now finds that the time has come. It is about the price she has to pay now, to protect her family.
It is the story of Bhumika Chawla, who has to find some hidden reservoirs of strength in herself and fight to save her husband's family, her family, from breaking down.
Most important, Family is the story of Viren Sahi, a gangster who finds too late that you may have everything, power, success, wealth but if you don't have family, you have nothing.
Raj Kumar Santoshi has given us brilliant films but his latest endeavour is a complete letdown. His film is heavily inspired by GODFATHER which is now too boring to watch in every other Bollywood film. Secondly the concept of the story is as old as the hills which makes the film very predictable. A number of sequences do catch your attention but thats about it. Besides the loose and illogical screenplay, Santoshi's direction doesn't do much to elevate the situation which looks like it has been done half-heartedly.
Ram Sampath's music is weak. Dialogues [Santoshi, Tigmanshu Dhulia] are commonplace. Performance-wise Amitabh Bachchan is okay in this film. Akshay Kumar gets barely 20 mins in the film and he is also okay. Bhumika Chawla is very good. Aryeman has a very long way to go. Rest of the cast lend able support. Overall a very ordinary film, you can give it a pass.(src: seasonsindia.com)
