Gangster is a 2006 Hindi crime thriller film that premiered on 28 April. It stars Shiney Ahuja, Emraan Hashmi and Kangna Ranaut. The plot is that of a bar girl who falls in love with two people, one a layman and the other a gangster.
Daya (Shiney Ahuja) is running away from the law. He is a criminal. But even while he is a fugitive, the center of his life is Simran (Kangana Ranaut), his love. Daya and Simran stay apart but dream together. They don't meet for weeks and months together, but Simran still dreams about a life with Daya and having a child with him. She dreams of a home and be loved by a man she loves the most, Daya. Akash (Emraan Hashmi) on the other hand is a careless guy. He lives a day at a time and does not realize how precious life is. Eventually as he starts spending a lot of time with Simran, he learns that life is cruel at times, unfair at times. He starts falling in love with her. He starts wanting her, longing for her, being with her. But are their destinies together? Does Simran love him too? Is Simran finally going to realize her dream with Akash? Or will finally Daya come back to her? If he does, will not the police find him? Or will Simran finally give up her dreams? Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt have always believed in the power of content and have always given the audience films that have a powerful story line. Gangster also has an interesting storyline but too many twists and turn in the film make you confused and you end up thinking why the writers have made such a complicated film. The twists and turns in the storyline make the film ridiculous and lost. Director Anurag Basu has done a great job and should be applauded for that. Pritam's music is very good. Cinematography [Bobby Singh] is consistent. Performance wise Emraan delivers a very powerful performance. Kangana has also done a great job. Shiny is remarkable. Rest of the cast lend able support. On the whole, Gangster is not a very entertaining film and you can give it a miss.
