The Movie,Bra Boys , Is a classic documentry, based on on Sunny Abberton,A Bra Boy Memember. The Bra Boys Started As A Surfing group which were not too famous but unfamous enough as a surf community of Sydney's eastern suburb, Maroubra, Until word got out, Now Across Australia all of the local, and tourists know about them as its kind of like a tradition,My brother,A bodyboarder loves bra boys, and has the magazines, Most people know him as the head of CTB (Closer Than Brothers) a local surf group.
It its show just how hard growing up in a home with a heroin-addicted mother, the boys learned to look after each other from a young age is.
The movie is fabulous ,thanks to Russell Crow, The executive producer. He,Russell, Done an exulant job with making and helping film this movie.
The movie itself shows and gives insight for those who watch it jsut how big the surf can be, and how the bra boys face the waves. Also gives you information into surf culture in a way that will leave you open hearted to these boys, who weere braugh up as locals, not taken seriously and as the soundtrack shows you, they took shit from all, And i say they are surviors of th world we live in today.
The bit i loved the most about this movie is it wasnt edited as much as a normal movie, and by that i mean it didnt cut out things you wanted to see. Also as a documentry i though the quality of it was fantastic and showed you how good surfing is and the horrors that can come with it!
Actually the documentary dwells on the trials and tribulations of one such family the Abbertons. It shows you the insites of how Sunny and his brothers had it tough with there mother being an addict, and how hard life can be , but it does have its reward though....
But what you must understand about this movie is that the Bra Boys are very Teritorial, The movie includes violence, crime and murder and even, the devastating attacks by tribes from other beaches, battles with the police. Jai and Koby were involved in a murder case, Through sen if you have seen this movie.
But you have to know that only the bra boys could make such a creative and bright film on there life, on the surf and behind usall camera's.Only they could create such a revealing documentary about this surfing tribal culture. And when you think about it you could see and imagine how different it would be if an actual movie crew,or professinals done it, it wouldn't seem so life like and thats what has your mind on the go while watching this.
The movie had a local effect to world wide as all surfers can relate to it. It has always existed within the surfing community, but the movie seemed to be on the one hand ashamed of the brawling and violence and on the other seemingly showcasing it as an act of heroism which i thought gave it a move effective repersentation! Its a good example and within the movie they promote the ethnic diversity within the Bra Boys.
I couldnt belive it when this documentry came into the cinema's,. It was such a big suprise as it didnt quite cover the requirments it should of and no one could of known it would make it there. But it did. Andi though it was absolutley excellent.
I belive that this movie is perfectly suited to an average teenager, 13 and older.
I would recommend this movie to many, and which i did when it came out, the cinemas where pakced and that shows how far they have come. But most of all i have to say that the soundtrack is catchy, great and very reconisable,Should have lyrics written down though, But its great all over, And like they say , This is South Sydney ,Not South Adeilade!!
