Bengal chief minister bats for Sourav againNew Delhi : Former Indian cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly was "ill treated" and there was no reason why he should not play in the Indian cricket team, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya said Saturday.
"He was unnecessarily insulted and humiliated," he told reporters at the Press Club of India here.
"I spoke to Sharad Pawar (BCCI chief) and told him that he (Sourav) should be judged on the basis of his performance. I also highlighted the fact that he has been the most successful captain of India," Bhattacharya said.
Asked whether the Left was interested in getting Ganguly to campaign for them, he said: "I have told Sourav that he is a cricketer and he should concentrate on cricket. He should not join politics."
