New Delhi : Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati is not only sure of her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) securing absolute majority in the upcoming assembly elections but also of becoming prime minister of the country one day.

"The BSP will secure absolute majority, but people distort surveys and opinion polls in such a way that confidence of the people comes down. I want to tell you that the real result of opinion polls will be declared on that day when the counting takes place," she told TV news channel NDTV in an interview.

Polls predict no clear majority to any party in the seven-phased assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, beginning Saturday, even as the BSP is seen as leading the tally.

"I can tell you in advance as I have been campaigning that the BSP will secure absolute majority," said Mayawati who has been chief minister of the state three times.

Asked about her chances for the post of the prime minister, Mayawati said: "Yes, I believe it will happen one day. I cannot explain the exact number of years... (you are talking of 10 years,) for all you know we might not even have to wait that long.

"Our supporters across the country are trying to get us to the centre after Uttar Pradesh," she said.
