Kochi : The Kerala High Court Friday asked police to submit a complaint following allegations ranging from murders to foreign funding at one of Asia's largest religious hubs - the Muringur Divine Retreat Centre - near here.

After complaints of harassment by a former woman employee of the centre, the court took up the case suo moto. Justice K. Padmanabhan Nair asked senior police official Vincent Paul to submit a complaint in six weeks.

The court has also asked the police to inquire into three alleged murders that took place at the religious retreat, possible foreign funding and reported involvement of Kerala bureaucrats and police officials with the centre.

The Muringur centre falls under the Ernakulam Archdiocese of the Syro Malabar Church.

Syro Malabar Church spokesperson Father Paul Thelakat said the court orders had to be respected.

"The court order was reportedly given on the basis of an anonymous letter and a CD," Thelakat told IANS.

The retreat centre, which was set up in the late 80's, attracts people from all religions across the country.

The centre, which conducts week-long in-house prayer sessions, has appointed several people as preachers. It has also opened branches throughout India.
