London : Late Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith reportedly reached out to troubled pop star Britney Spears in a video message asking if the two could be friends.

A US weekly magazine claims that Anna Nicole recorded a tape in September 2006, in which she apparently wanted to befriend the troubled singer, said ananova.com.

At the time, both of them were eight months pregnant.

In the video message, Anna said: "If you see this for some oddball reason... and you want to be friends, I would love so much to hang out with you.

"I think you're totally cool, and I think we're about to have babies around the same time... I would just love to meet you."

After urging Britney to call her companion Howard K. Stern, she signed off: "Take care, and I hope that you do great on your second pregnancy. I'm sure you won't even see this, but if you do, I'd really love to talk to you. Bye."

According to sources, the two never met before Anna's tragic death Feb 8.
