Maa-ki-Daal

Ingredients: ( Serves : 6)

11/2 cups / 300 gms Black lentils, whole (Sabut urad daal)
1/2 cup butter
1tsp chili powder
2tsp coriander powder
2/3rd cup cream (malai)
4tsp garlic paste
4tsp ginger paste
2 green chilies (sliced)
Salt to taste
2/3rd cup tomato puree
Preperation :

Soak lentils for at least 3 hours.
Add 1.5 litres water to the lentils and cook over low flame till grains split.
Stir the lentils to mash them. Set aside.
Heat the butter, fry ginger and garlic pastes. Add green chilies, tomato puree, salt and chili powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes, add the boiled lentils. Cook further for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add chopped coriander and cream (leaving 1tbsp aside).
Serve hot garnished with reserved cream and accompanied by naan or tandoori roti.
