Clean Your Fridge for a Healthier Kitchen
Behind one of the most frequently opened doors in your house lies potentially harmful bacteria.
It takes only one spoiled food item in your refrigerator to encourage the growth of mold, which can develop in 24 to 48 hours. So monitor your fridge for spoiled items at least once a week, and clean the entire inside of it once every month with a diluted bleach-and-water solution, a natural citrus-oil cleaner, or a cup of lemon juice or vinegar combined with 2 gallons of water. Remove the shelves, and clean them under hot running water. (Don’t forget to scrub the handle, too, or disinfect it with a mild bleach or ammonia solution or less-toxic hydrogen peroxide, especially if you’ve been handling raw meat.)
