Taraporewala Aquarium is the exclusive aquarium, situated near Marine Drive in Mumbai, India and was built in 1951. The hall is divided in to two parts. One part consist of 100 species of marine and fresh water fish including seven types of coral fish from the Lakshadweep Islands. The main attractions of the aquarium are sharks, turtles, rays and moray eels, starting from huge sea turtles to small starfish and stingrays. The other part of aquarium consist of fossils and preserved fish in bottles, along with rare sea shells. The aquarium is named after Mr Taporewala, a Parsi philanthropist who donated Rs. 200,000 for the construction. The aquarium is now maintained by the Maharashtra State Government. It is open from 11am.to 8p.m. on weekdays and between 10 a.m. to 8p.m. on Sundays. It is closed on Mondays. Photography is prohibited.
