About Jyoti Sarup
Gurudwara Jyoti Sarup is a place where the mortal remains of Mata Gujri, the mother of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his two younger sons, Fateh Singh and Zorawar Singh were cremated. This Gurudwara is 1 km from Fatehgarh Sahib on Sirhind - Chandigarh road.
Mata Gujri Ji, Sahebjada Fateh Singh and Zorawar Singh were locked in a cold place, known as Thanda Burj after separating from their family on the fateful night of evacuation from Anandpur. The faujdar, Nawab Wazir Khan wants Sahebjada's, who were just six and nine year old, to convert their religion to Islam but they refused to do so. So Wazir Khan ordered that the Sahebjada's be bricked alive. On hearing the news that her grandsons had been slaughtered in cold blood, Mata Gujri Ji sacrificed her life in Thanda Burj.
Wazir Khan then refused to allow the cremation of the bodies unless the land for the cremation was purchased by laying gold coins on it. A devotee of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Seth Todar Mal purchased this place by offering gold coins to Wazir Khan and thus cremated Mata Gujri Ji and Sahebjada's Fateh Singh and Zorawar Singh. Here stands the Gurudwara Jyoti Sarup.
Every year in December, a Jorh Mela is organized in the memory of these martyrs, where lakhs of people come to pay their obeisance.
