Tips on Rice

Add a few drops of lemon juice to rice when cooking. It makes rice white and keeps the grains whole. |

About five minutes before rice is cooked, place a small absorbent towel under the pot lid. Continue cooking. The rice will be dry and fluffy. |

To reheat leftover rice, line a vegetable steamer with a basket-like coffee filter and warm over boiling water. The grains stay in the basket and do not get mushy. |

Add a lump of butter or a few tea spoons of cooking oil to the water. Good for Rice, noodles or Spaghetti. |

To cook rice without sticking add a spoon full of vinegar in it. |

Avoid stickiness in Rice - Add a few drops of lemon juice & a pinch of sugar to the rice. |

Rubbing the inside of the cooking vessel with vegetable oil will also prevent noodles, spaghetti,and similar starches from boiling over. |

To rescue rice that is a little burnt, first, lay a slice of bread on top of the rice. Replace the lid and leave it to stand for about 10 minutes or so. The bread should soak up most of the burnt taste. Next, remove the rice carefully, leaving the burnt rice on the bottom of the pot. |

To brown rice evenly while raw, wash, drain in a colander, keep aside for 10 minutes. Heat some Ghee in a pan, fry rice till it is first dry, then brown gently stirring. Proceed as required for recipe. |

To heat rice quickly, spread it on a serving plate, sprinkle a little water, cover with a domed shaped glass lid and microwave for three to four minutes. |
