Dark Lies
 By : Tanay Kumar Das ( Posted on :08 Apr, 2006 )Total Views : 351 | Previous | Next
I had to watch it. I didn’t want to, but I had to. My son was to be executed in the next 10 minutes. All I could do was sit there and watch. From where I was sitting, I could see four Nazis, two at either side of Frederic (my son). They were wearing their pale green uniform, with Hitler’s symbol sewn on it. I was thinking, how could these men, be so bitter, and are willing to murder for what they believe in. How life is so unfair. If I tried to release Frederic, I would be shot. I couldn’t just sit there and watch. I had to do something. I thought…

Frederic had stolen bread from one of the soldier’s tents, the day before. He did it so he could surprise me when I came back from working the machinery. I was pleased, and proud with my son. It was a moment of happiness. How I wished I could go back to yesterday, and enjoy it once more.

I watched as my son knelt down on the platform. The tall soldier, with the pistol walked up to him. His gun at point blank range. Tears rolled down my eyes. He raised his right arm. It all happened to quickly for me to remember. I think I ran from my bench, and jumped on the soldier. A gun shot rang in the air. Then I saw the barrel of the gun point at me.

Bang.

Emptiness filled the air. I saw a bright light, then I saw my son. He was lying next to me. I didn’t know what happened, until I saw the dark red blood, ooze out of his mouth. I cried silently in my head. Then everything disappeared. I saw a bright light. Suddenly, all my memories flashed through my head. I remember my mother, how she was put inside the gas chamber to die. I remember my father, how he was killed in a car accident. This is the truth in life. I had to accept it. It was time for me to move one. I had to shut my eyes, and say good bye to the world.
